This week at the loch - 05/09/2025
Perhaps unsurprisingly, I caught the 8yo’s lurgy and have spent most of the last week either ill or recovering. Yesterday, after starting to finally feel closer to human, Mr K and I took the kids ten pin bowling after school. Which turned out to be ill-considered as I woke up today in considerable pain. So today I’m doing a little work from the couch, but I see a quiet afternoon in my future.
I’ve been so ill this week that I haven’t even managed to spend much time in nature, beyond stumbling to the school and back. Hopefully bramble picking next week - I’m really looking forward to that crumble…
I have news around two live events to celebrate the release of Daughters of Nicnevin; both will be announced as soon as the event pages are live, so watch out for them over the next week or so. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out this amazing review from Foreword: Review of Daughters of Nicnevin (9781805520207) — Foreword Reviews
What I’m working on - Despite being ill, I have managed a bit of writing and plenty of plenty of admin. Almost finished the solarpunk short story and very keen to get back to Rise of a Witch Queen.
What I’m reading - House of Open Wounds by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It’s excellent, like all of his works.
What I’m watching - There’s been a lot of Star Trek Voyager as I’ve not had much energy to concentrate on anything more serious. I do love Voyager though. Last night, I watched a documentary on the Trail of William Bury, who some suspected of being Jack the Ripper. Really interesting stuff that sparked an idea for a short story…
What I’m listening to - The latest episode of BFS Long Story Short, with the incredibly talented Loraine Wilson: https://www.podbean.com/ep/pb-kutet-1951e65
Something Interesting - Check out this article about Crimson Peak, by my lovely, talented friend C.A. Yates: Women in Horror : A Monstrous Love -
