This week at the loch - 05/06/2025

This week has been disrupted by my birthday on Tuesday, plus end-of-term stuff for the kids and medical appointments, so I’m feeling a little behind with everything. I did however manage to find time in the evenings to finish the gorgeous jigsaw pictured above (Antique Map by Corner Piece, if anyone wants to get one for themselves).

I’m dashing off this post before I head through to Edinburgh for Cymera Festival, which I’m very much looking forward to. If you’re there, do feel free to say hi! If you’ve never been before, I can highly recommend it. A weekend full of workshops and panel discussions with some of the top writers working in SFFH today, as well as readings, quizzes and more. It’s great fun, and very accessible to both writers and readers.

What I’m working on - Still plodding away on the short stories. The one about chronic illness is taking quite a lot out of me, being so personal to me. I’m hoping to finish it over this weekend as I have some writing sessions planned with the friend I’m room sharing with for the weekend.

What I’m reading - Still on Witchcraft: A History in Thirteen Trials by Marion Gibson. It’s informative and engaging. A really interesting read.

What I’m watching - Charmed is losing some of its charm. There are some great episodes and some really poorly thought-out ones and the inconsistent writing is getting on my nerves way more than the cheesy acting and questionable special effects.

What I’m listening to - Still a lot of Lacey Sturm. I’ve had Breath With Me on repeat a lot. I’m a huge fan of Lindsey Stirling too, so this song is pretty much perfect as far as I’m concerned.

Something Interesting - As part of Pride month, the BFS is running an online workshop with Bona Books on writing and editing queer people. Click here for for more information and to sign up.

Coming Up - After Cymera it’ll be a couple of days resting and then finishing the short stories and getting on with some editing work. The next book is starting to call to me from the back of my mind. I think it will be time to start soon.
